Welcome from the Acting Head Teacher, Phil Forster
Thank you for visiting our website and a very warm welcome to Atkinson House School.
Atkinson House School first opened in September, 2000, and we remain Northumberland Councils only designated provision for pupils aged 11-19, with Social, Emotional and Mental Health issues (SEMH). The school has always been designated to cater for boys/young men.
The original school remains as a two storey building, and is used to deliver the National Curriculum subjects from Year 7 to Year 13. In September, 2010, the school opened a new £3 million state of the art Vocational Block, which is used to deliver a more work related curriculum, encompassing construction; motor vehicle maintenance; preparation for working life and many others aspects.
Our school numbers are consistent, with an overall capacity of 70 students at present, with the potential of 80 in the near future. A small number of pupils join us on a Shared Placement arrangement, and operate on a split weekly timetable between Atkinson House, and their host mainstream school.
As a school, we also have a hugely important and exciting link with our partner school in the Gambia, which caters for close to 300 nursery age pupils. This collaboration has been really successfully over recent years and one which we will continue to develop with the support of our pupils, staff and community.
It is a privilege for me to be the current Acting Head teacher of such a positive and forward moving school community. We have an enormously skilled, experienced staff who work with great dedication and empathy, to ensure the best possible outcome for all of the young men who pass through Atkinson House, and move into their adult life beyond.
I hope you enjoy looking through our website, and any further information required can be obtained by contacting school directly.
